my husband is us citizen and i got a visa( then green card). we went through a lawyer, and it took about a month to get initail work permit, and about 5 months to get green card- we had to have marriage cert, and had interviews to prove we had been together and were a 'real' couple( photos, proof that we had lived/travelled together) . hope it works out ( can't guarantee the mariage!)
