Advice on seeking a spouse online?

Assalamu 3alaykum wr wb,





I'm currently in communication with a brother I met via an online Islamic singles site. We're getting to know each other by email but I'm a bit unfamiliar with this process and I'm not exactly sure as to the steps to take. If I like the brother, where do I take our communication next? I'm not really comfortable with talking to him on the phone before meeting him in person but he lives in another country.





Would you recommend seeking a spouse online?


What were your experiences?





Any advice welcome.

if you are interested, you can first start by having him meet your parents.





phone calls? those sometimes lead to un wanted things :/

Online relationships= bad idea. You can meet him in person, but what guarantee do you have that he will represent himself for who he says he is? He can pretend, and you wouldn't even see it.

if you could use your Islamic community/relatives/friends networking system, it would be a WHOLE lot better..





if you are going to go through w/this...plz keep these concepts in mind:


P...Public = whatever msgs exchanged should be able to be shared w/the public w/o embarrassment


P...Purpose = every msg should have a purpose so as not to get distracted by flirtatious talk


L...Length = keep conversations to a predetermined length

whoever you are speaking w/is still non-mahram to you and speaking online has the tendency to allow for too much comfort...which may lead to haram activities, etc.


it's very important that you keep everything on task and easily repeatable to your folks and what not...keep them in the loop!

Seriously. He lives in another country I would seriously advise you to be extremely careful. I was on a site like that for some time. Allot of people there are up to no good no matter what they say and how charming they seem to be. I would suggest that you ask the Iman or your parents to check it out. Maybe they can speak with him over the phone.


If you live in the USA. or UK be extra careful if he is from another country. many are just looking for a way in . Anyways , its not as easy as most of them think.


Just be careful sister. Make sure he is good before you settle .
